This week we will continue discussing the following.... Reading/Language Arts This week scholar will have a variety of fun activities to choose from on this week as we prepare for summer break. Enjoy! Mathematics This week we will continue to review adding and subtracting within 1000 and solving two step word problems. This week we will continue discussing the following.... Reading/Language Arts This week we will be comparing and contrasting story elements. We will also review adjectives, adverbs, and figurative language. Compare- we look for what’s similar Contrast- we look for what is different Adjectives- a word that says something about a noun or pronoun. Adverbs- describe a verb, adjective, or another adverb. They tell how, where, when, and to what extent something is done. Mathematics This week we will practice adding and subtracting within 1000. We will use My Math, Zearn, and Dreambox to support learning this concept. Please watch the instructional video and Strategy video to continue practicing this concept. *Scholars should practice 7’s times tables this week. We will continue to practice this strategy to solve word problems. We will use My Math, Zearn, and Dreambox to support learning this concept. Reading/Language Arts This week will be reviewing comma’s, adjectives, character traits, and figurative language. Scholars will also choose to write an opinion essay or a narrative. Comma’s- To separate things in a list: "cows, horses, pigs, and sheep". Adjectives- a word that says something about a noun or pronoun. Character Traits-words that describe and help us understand a character. Figurative Language (literal and non-literal language) Mathematics Last week we learned about telling time to the nearest minute. This week we will focus on measuring elapsed time intervals. An elapsed time interval is the amount of time that passes from the start of an activity to the end of the activity. We will use My Math, Zearn, and Dreambox to support learning this concept. Please view the anchor chart and watch the instructional videos to get your scholar started. *Scholars should practice 8’s times tables this week. Social Studies We will be going over the Thirteen Colonies. Scholars will log into their Clever accounts to watch the Thirteen Colonies video. Writing: Scholars will be writing constructive responses for informational writing using the RACE method. Math: We will start practicing our 5’s multiplication facts and will be looking at Social Studies: We will begin exploring American Indians. Math- We are reviewing the properties of multiplication and practicing our 2's division and multiplication facts. Scholars will retest on Friday over these. Scholars will bring home multiplication flash cards to practice this week. Your scholar should be able to answer their 2's multiplication and division facts within 6 seconds. Please be mindful of this as it is a requirement from the district. The book fair is this week and it is also Red Ribbon Week.
