No School this week! Have a safe Fall Break! Continue to study your facts and read for 20 minutes a night! See you all October 1st!
We hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend! Enjoy your travels and/or relaxation!
SPECIAL NOTICESPlease don't forget that school dismisses at 12:30 PM on Wednesday 8/29/18. Please make sure that both your scholar and their teacher know how your scholar is getting home that day. Open House is Thursday 8/30/18 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Reading: Thank You, Mr. FalkerThis week we are working on character traits. Help your scholar to understand the difference between character traits and feelings using the video and trait list below. Then, if you would like to experience the text, a read aloud is linked to the bottom left. Writing: Narratives
Social Studies: Goods and Services
Math: Subtracting fluently within 1000Now that we know how to add fluently within 1000, we are learning how to subtract fluently within 1000. Like with addition, there are many methods of subtraction. Some may work better for your scholar than others. Take a moment to preview a few of the strategies your scholar is learning this week. *Please keep in mind that the traditional algorithms we learned as children are not standard until 4th grade. Instead, students are learning to use their knowledge of place value and to develop their number sense so that they understand the concepts behind the traditional algorithm.*
You can help your scholar to develop their comprehension of word problems by posing questions to them at home, in the grocery store, or where ever you may go, using whole numbers. For example, "If I have $35 dollars in my wallet and I spend $22 dollars on groceries, how many dollars do I have left?" Or "If you have 59 Legos and you use 41 to build a tower, how many Legos remain?"
Below you will find some Addition and Subtraction word problems you can practice with your scholar. Please keep in mind that school will release at 12:30 PM on Wednesday August, 29, 2018. Please let your scholars and their teachers know how they should be going home!
